I'm here to guide you through everything! From permit logistics to ceremony locations that fit the vibe you're dreaming of. As a Hawaii elopement photographer, I specialize in capturing genuine moments and the emotion of your day, so you can relive every breathtaking detail for years to come.
The Tetons are beautiful year round, but each season provides a completely different experience and look. Choosing the right tie of the year depends on the type of scenery you want, and the kind of weather you're comfortable with. Here's what each season is like:
Spring is one of the best times to elope in Hawaii. The weather is warm and sunny, crowds are smaller, and flowers are in full bloom, making it a beautiful backdrop for photos. This season offers a peaceful, intimate experience without the peak tourist traffic of summer.
Summer brings long, sunny days and vibrant landscapes, perfect for beach ceremonies and adventurous elopements. While temperatures can be higher and popular spots busier, early planning and choosing less traveled locations can help you enjoy Hawaii at its most lively and bright.
Fall is ideal for couples seeking fewer crowds and gentle weather. The islands are slightly quieter after summer, but the sunsets remain spectacular and the natural landscapes lush. This season is perfect for romantic, intimate elopements with stunning light for photography.
Temperatures typically stay in the mid-70s to low 80s, so you can enjoy a beach ceremony or a waterfall elopement without worrying about chilly weather. While there’s a slightly higher chance of rain, the islands remain lush and vibrant, and the season offers quieter, more private locations for couples who want an intimate experience.
Each Hawaiian island has its own personality, landscapes, and experiences to offer. Below you'll see the main 4 Hawaiian Islands and what makes each of them so unique.
Oahu is known as the “Gathering Place,” offering a mix of iconic Hawaiian scenery and city conveniences. Couples can choose from world-famous beaches like Lanikai or Waikiki for classic sunset ceremonies, or head to dramatic cliffside lookouts like Makapu’u or Ka’ena Point for panoramic ocean views. Oahu is great for couples who want adventure without sacrificing accessibility—restaurants, accommodations, florists, and officiants are all nearby. It’s also ideal if you want a combination of romantic beach moments and cultural experiences, from historic sites to local food tours.
Maui is often considered the most romantic island for elopements due to its mix of lush landscapes, cascading waterfalls, and iconic sunsets. Couples can elope along the Road to Hana, stopping at waterfalls and bamboo forests, or exchange vows atop Haleakalā for a mountaintop sunrise ceremony. Maui is perfect for couples seeking both natural beauty and luxury accommodations, with easy access to charming resorts, private villas, and scenic beaches. It’s a dreamy island for photographers, offering vibrant flowers, dramatic cliffs, and golden beaches all in one location.
The Big Island is the ultimate choice for adventurous couples looking for dramatic and one-of-a-kind landscapes. Here you can marry on black sand beaches, volcanic lava fields, or even within Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. The island offers extreme contrasts (lush green forests, dry desert-like areas, and rugged coastline) all in one trip. Big Island is perfect for couples who want an epic adventure and don’t mind traveling a bit off the beaten path to find truly unique ceremony locations.
Kauai, the Garden Isle, is Hawaii’s most untouched and secluded island, offering dramatic cliffs, dense jungles, and hidden waterfalls. Couples can elope along the Napali Coast, in remote valleys, or on quiet beaches far from crowds, making it ideal for intimate ceremonies. Kauai is slower-paced than the other islands, perfect for couples who want privacy, natural beauty, and a sense of adventure wrapped into one day.
To legally marry in Hawaii, obtain a marriage license in advance. The couple must submit a marriage license application and pay the $60 fee +$5 Processing Fee. Then you will meet with an agent no more/sooner than 30 days prior to your ceremony date. During the meeting the agent will review your application, verify photo IDs and any necessary documentation, and issue the license. No witnesses are needed! There is no waiting period before the ceremony can take place. Next step, let’s get you married within 30 days of picking up your license. Plan well ahead and secure permits if needed. Consider hiring local vendors for an authentic experience. The best times for eloping vary by island, so research the weather and tourist seasons. Not sure where to begin? I will be there all throughout the way and guide you!
